On Climbing
I have a lot of things to say, but Stay Focused will start blocking this site in 3 minutes, so..
All I'm gonna say is this.
I should have taken up rock climbing years ago.
The other day, Kate and I were talking about my new job.
The stress of a new job.
I was telling her how climbing helps me handle stress like nothing I've ever done before.
Kate in her wisdom said, that I was gonna get through the transition.
"You're just going to be climbing a lot."
And I will be/have been.
Climbing, stretching, becoming.
Athletically and otherwise.

Bless the Broken Road
Kim and I used to always say how much we wanted to date cowboys.
First of all,
What were we thinking?
Second of all,
Hello, best idea ever.
Third of all,
There's something to be said for driving down a dirt road in the front of a pickup truck listening to a song about things that really matter.
Fourth of all,
Please forgive him for his hair and realize that this song is the best thing to happen to singledom since Haven't Met You Yet (in no chronological order)

In thoroughness is satisfaction
I've been thinking a lot lately about the balance between perfectionism and laziness. The statement that perfect is the enemy of good. (or as Ms. Regina puts it: good is better than perfect). And the statement that anything worth doing is worth doing well.
I've spent a lot of my life trying to figure out this balance. Trying to do enough things to make life worthwhile while trying to limit the amount of things I am doing in order to avoid a frantic, frenzied and frenetic pace.
So then I was watching this inspirational video by F. Enzio Busche.
Lots of these statements have been my favorite at one point or another. But today, my favorite is this:
Be not so much concerned about what you do, but do what you do with all your heart, might, and strength.
In thoroughness is satisfaction.
Maybe the answer is simply to pick the things that are important, that are worth heart, might, and strength, and then do them thoroughly. Not perfectly. Not feverishly. Just thoroughly.

A Funny Greeting Card (Magnet?) Courtesy of the bookstore
It's so high quality because I took it on my Nokia bar phone years ago.
Thanks for the great thought, Ms. Erica, age 12.
